Question
I just adopted a stray dog today. The person I got her from had only had her for 2 days and noticed that she had been through some rough times...she had ticks all over her and had some scars/wounds on her head. But most distrubing of all is that she was very scared and nervous around anyone. And when I got her she jumped at the door closing and when I tried to roll down the window.  When I tried to introduce her to the other dogs..my brother has two american bull dogs, one of which can be very aggressive...she had a bowel movement on my foot. Now I'm not sure if this is normal dog behavior or if she has been abused...but how can I make her more comfortable in her new home? And what are some ways that I can help the other dogs to adjust to her and her to them?

Answer
Well keep her away from the aggressive dog!! In a nutshell, she needs much more time to settle into her new home before you add in meeting potentially dangerous dogs.

Give her a safe place to sleep undisturbed and gradually branch out her freedoms.

There is a book called Scaredy Dog that would be very helpful, but mostly she needs time and patience.
