mucus from eyes

I have a sheppard/rotti mix and lately he has a white mucus coming from his eyes. I have been cleaning them everyday and sometimes two or three times a day. I have even cleaned them w/ my contact saline solution. It won't clear up?????

If the insides of the lids are red it could be conjunctivitis.   It could also be an eye infections which should be looked at by the vet to avoid permanent eye damage and it could also be "Dry Eye"  which is a nasty eye condition that is painful to the dog.  In most of the above cases an antibiotic is necessary so you'll have to go to the vet.
