Weird coughing in a pomeranian pup

Question
Hello,
I have an 8 month old male pom puppy named Bambi.
I got him when he was 4 months old. A few months ago, I noticed that he is making weird sounds, like he has a hairball stuck in his throat. He doesn't make these sounds when I pull on his collar while walking him, and is fine when I pet or touch his neck. Sometimes he just lays next to me, and then all of a sudden gets up, and starts running around the house while making these weird sounds, like something is stuck in his throat. At first it only happened after he drank water, but not it happens nearly every day. Like I said before, it is fine when I touch his neck or when he pulls on a leash. When this happens, it lasts for only 20 seconds or so.  Before the attack, and right after, the dog acts perfectly normal. I would really like to know what is happening to Bambi.
Thank you!

Answer
Hi Matalya
It sounds like Bambi (cute name by the way) may have a mild touch of kennel cough or some other virus.  If the cough is his only symptom it will probably clear up of its own accord, but if the cough persists for more than two - three weeks, gets any worse or he develops any other symptoms I would advise you to consult a vet.
Hope this helps
Sarah
