Question
Hi, I have a yorkie puppy that has a problem with matted fur. I bathe him with puppy shampoo and conditioner, and try to get the mats out while his hair is still wet, but to no avail. Is there any detangler that can help? I really don't want to cut his soft puppy hair.

Answer
Hello EJ,

Puppies have soft hair and it will mat up easily.  I tell my customers to never bathe a dog until you have brushed and combed all the hair.  When you get mats wet it causes the knots to become even tighter and tougher to get out.  I suggest you try to do that before his next bath.  You may have to just start all over again with a professional groom.  After that you can keep up with brushing and combing so it does not get unmanageable again.

There is a great shampoo at www.pipschoice.com that is perfect for keeping skin and coat in top condition.  Daily brushing, using proper shampoo and a conditioning bath spray mist will do the trick.
