Question
I have 2 chihuahuas M/F both are 1 1/2. Their 1 st sex was about when they were 9 mos. She never become pregnant. Now  since sept. 18th 2007 they have been having sex. day1=1x, day2=0x day3=2x, day4=2x, day5=3x, so far day6=1x...is it normal to have sex this often? My male is the one that get so exicited. He usually sleeps with us but now he can't cause they only thing we will be hearing is him crying and wanted sex! It drives me crazy. Her 1st period was on Aug. 2006. Can she get pregnant without another period? What can we do to calm the male down? Or we can't? Just let them do it? will it hurt anything?

Answer
I keep my dogs separated when I don't want them to breed. When I am breeding someone, I still keep the dogs separated until I actually breed them with my supervision. DOGS CAN GET INJURED IF LEFT TO THEIR OWN RESOURCES! (And your male could be making himself very sore from all that breeding.) The only reason to allow dogs to breed is to produce puppies, and the parents should have certain health testing done before that is undertaken.

A bitch can only get pregnant when in season, but some can have "silent" seasons so that there is no discharge or they keep themselves so clean that it is difficult to tell when they are actually in heat.

Personally, I don't know why you want to live with all that commotion; you say it is driving you crazy. Have your bitch spayed and your male neutered and then you can enjoy them as wonderful pets again. I would certainly miss not having a dog to sleep with....
