Feeding my Lhasa Apso

Question
I am feeding my dog three quarters of a 300 gram pack of Better by Nature wet dog food. Is this enough as she seems as though she has lost a little bit of weight. I also give her about 4 dod biscuits a day as treats.

Answer

Hi Barbara,

All dog foods have feeding guidelines on the package. It's just a recommendation though, every dog's metabolism and activity levels are unique, so even with the feeding guidelines some dogs will gain or lose weight. In these cases, you need to either give the dog a little more or a little less food.

Better By Nature canned dog food recommends one to two cans a day, depending on if your dog weighs 5 or 10kg. So, depending on your dog's ideal weight you might feed a can, a can and a half, or two full cans a day, or more each day.

Keep an eye on your dog's weight. If she continues to lose weight after adjusting the amount of food you feed her, it can be a symptom of a medical problem and you should have her examined by a veterinarian.

Best of luck,

Patti
