licking of the paws

my dog chester is a my weighs about 30lbs and i the past three to four months has been licking his front paws non-stop and when he is not licking his paws he will lick the carpet or his pillow he sleeps on.  I just had him to the vet for another reason but that is over and he still licks. it is driving us nuts.
what can i do

This sounds a bit like OCD, but is most likely allergies. You should have asked the vet about this when you were there.

You might try putting him on a limited-ingredient food (like Eagle's fish formula, Eagle's duck and oatmeal, or one of the Wellness limited-ingredient diets... Simple Food Solutions) and see if he improves, but not allergies are due to food.
