Question
Hi back in early June my husband and I rescued a 6 month old puppy from the humane society. So everything was going good until about 3 weeks ago my brother-in-law fed her some pieces of cooked pork. Right after she ate that she got diarrhea. We I noticed that we quickly started feeding her boiled rice and chicken. A week later she still wasn't better so my husband took her to the vet. The vet gave her a shot of anti-biotic's, a weeks worth of anti-biotic pills and Hills ID canned food. Well she got better when we gave her all of those items and was fine for the last week. This past weekend we moved and now she has the diarrhea again.
We have also been having issues with her listening to us. What do you recommend for us to do as far as getting her to listen to us?

Answer
For the diarrhea, I would go back to the the vet.  Since it reoccurred, he may want to try a more aggresive treatment.

At 6 months, she is old enough for an obedience class.  The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts. Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog. Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones. You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat.
