Chihuahua stomach problem

Hi Becky,

We just adopted a chihuahua.  He will be 2 in July.  He was fine up until last night when he was very whiney and didn't want to go out and he didn't want to go out this morning.  He snapped when you try to pick him up and my husband said his stomach felt tense.  I have checking in with my daughter throughout the day and she says that he seems better.  He has been eating but I don't know if he likes the food. Could it be anxiety from being away from his original mother. He went poop this morning and he did pee pee a little bit this morning.  He has been laying down most of the day but she says he is playful and has snapped anymore. He hasn't gone pee pee since this morning???  Please help

Hi Nicole,  

Did you just bring him home? If so, then Yes, he is probably adjusting to his new home.  If he is eating and drinking then that is a good sign.  Dogs and cats will NOT eat if they are sick.  I really would not worry about him unless he stops eating, or starts vomiting and/or diarrhea. All of these are signs of a sick dog.   I think if you just got him, he is adjusting to his new home and he may be a bit depressed too.  Give him lots of love and patience.  Chihuahuas are a bit tempermental anyway, but once you win their heart, they are very faithful dogs. They are immensely loyal dogs and I think you will find that he will be a great pet.  Just give him a little space right now.
