Question
My American Cocker has blisters in her mouth along the crease where her gum meets her lip. I brush her teeth and did not notice them until yesterday with the onset of stinky breath.

Answer
Hi Joey,

It's impossible for me to diagnose your dog. All I would be able to offer is guesswork, and your dog deserves much better than that!

I can tell you that bad breath, or "dog breath" is a symptom of dental disease, just as it is in people. Your dog may have tooth decay, gum disease, salivary gland problems, an allergic response to a food, or a viral illness. Your dog may need a dental cleaning, extraction, or antibiotics. Like I said, there's no way for me to tell.

It's good that you brush your dog's teeth. One of the benefits of tooth brushing is being able to see what's going on in our dog's mouths! So whatever is going on, you can feel good that it's not something which has been festering for very long.

Your dog needs to be examined by your veterinarian.

Best of luck,

Patti
