tearing up carpet

Question
I have a 6 year old Pit Bull. I have had him for 5 years and he has been an indoor dog his whole life. Recently, my husband moved out and about the same time, my dog started scratching the carpet in the closet. He has done it so much, that he has completely ripped out the carpet and padding from the closet, but doesn't do it anywhere else. He just completed dog training and obedience school, and did it again. The trainor said there must be some specific reason he is doing that but she can't figure it out either. I was thinking of getting the invisible fence discs and putting one in my closet, but then worry if he will start doing it somewhere else. He doesn't destroy anything else in my house. What can I do?

Answer
Hi Jill,

When you can't be supervising your dog, containing him to a dog crate, or part of a room (with the help of a child gate or two) is a lot more cost effective than investing in an invisible fence.

With supervision, and containment this odd behavior can stop.

Best of luck,

Patti
