Question
-------------------------
Hi Again Becky:

Yes, I've only been in the Smokeys when I was a kid, but- I do remember how beautiful they were.(I'm 48 now).
Back to Harley-Charley.
Its 4am and there's no change.
I think the pain shot has worn off, he's crying.
I just can't stand it.
You know, I had to put two pets to sleep two years ago-two weeks from each other, and I immediately replaced them.Well, I couldnt ever replace them, thats not what i meant, but I needed another boy, and then thats when I got Murphy, then H-Charley came not long after.
I was thinking the exact same thing, a possible impaction.
I ran across that a few times on the internet.-So I'm going to look some more.
They did say they needed to see blood test results.
I did "pry" when I aasked the nurse for her opinion(I dont think it was the greatest opinion for some reason.)
They did not give him a fever reducer of any sort. Do you think that they expected the pain shot to help reduce that?? I find that odd, they would have given my kids a fever reducer if their fever was that high.
So I tried to think and theres really nothing more I can think to tell you.
He's wimpering on and off. I'm so scared.
I feel we're going to loose him, really I do.
But I am not the most optimistic person.
I feel awful. Here sits my Kerianna with me(she's 11) at 4 in the morning, having to go to school but up half the nite.
She loves her HC so much, and is frantic(kinda like me, only I am trying to hide it).
Well, Thats all I can say.
I'm a mess.
Everything is bad right now in my life, and this makes it so much worse.
Even my 91y/o mom is up and asking about him, trying her best not to cry
asking about her "little guy."
The food was HILLS PRESCRIPTION DIET  Canine i/d.
They said he should have nothing last night, but to start with a table spoon in the morning. They said that would be easily digestible.
We had to put our master bedroom in the basement when my dad died last year and we had to move mom in. So we sleep down there. I brought him down, and he stayed down there most of the night. I tried to get him to follow me upstairs where its warmer, and he didnt come. But here he comes a few minutes later, and he had to come up twelve stairs, so that was good that he could do that. And we brought him some water, and he also took quite a bit of that also.
I'm going to look up that anal impaction. I just have some kindof feeling about that. Thats what I saw all the time in a quad patient I worked for for four years. Thats what I thought of when I realized the poop prob.
Yeah, it costed $170.00 last night.
And if they have to do an xray today like they mentioned that would be another 150.-. I can handle that, but its what they would need to do after the xray that scares me. He's so warm, warmer than yesterday, BUT
his nose is still wet, so prob no dehydration, right??

Let me know what you think, even tho=
I havent given you anymore info.

Thanks Alot,
Thea

Is this going on a message board?? All I have been seeing is the page that I write, and your answer coming back under it.
If there is a message board, tell me where to go to find it would you??
I dont know how I ever found you and I may not be able to do it again-

I just dont want to loose you-lol.
Thanks Becky

Answer
Hi Thea,
No, this doesn't go onto a message board. It's a free help site called ALL Experts, or Ask the Expert.  If you go there, you can click on different "experts" and look at the questions that have been asked and the answers given.

If harley has an anal sac infection, I would have thought they would have done something about that in the office. I feel so sorry for him if he is crying.  Call your vets office, and ask them if you can give him something for pain. I don't want to recommend anything as your vet really should be the one to do that.  Try taking a warm cloth and pressing it against the painful area.  I don't know if it will do any good, but it sure couldn't hurt.

The I/D is for intestinal problems.  I'm not sure why that was prescribed unless they think it will help him have an easier bowel movement.

Why are they doing an xray?  Do they suspect some kind of obstruction?  I'm really unclear as to why they are doing some of the things ..... be sure and ask them WHY are you doing this?   Some vets will run your bill up when it's not necessary.  I'm not saying this is happening, but it never hurts to ask.  I wish I could be more help to you.  I feel really bad for that little guy.

You can email me if you would rather take that route.  My email addy is tn_becky@yahoo.com

God Bless,
Becky
