Hot Spot

Question
Hello,
We have a Schnoodle who we think got a hot spot 2 months ago before we left for our week long trip.  The vet tested for ring worm and it was negative.  We think it was a hot spot but we are not 100% positive.  The scab has healed - but the area that lost all the hair is still completely bald - and warm to the touch.  Will the hair ever grow back?  And should we be concerned?
Thank you.

Answer
If the skin appears healthy then most likely you have nothing to worry about and the hair will slowly grow back.  If it appears red and irritated then I would suggest using any topical treatments that your vet may have given you and taking him back for a recheck.  Hotspots are fairly common and generally heal up well.  If the hair does not start to grow back soon then it's possible that the hair follicles have been damaged due to scar tissue.  If that's the case then the hair will never grow back.
