dog family

hi,
 i was walking by the road,i saw a family of dogs.there were 2 pups and three adult dogs.the three adult dogs were sleeping and 2 pups were sitting besides each other.i was just observing them from a distance of 2 to 3 feet.suddenly one of the puppies started to bark at me.hearing the  puppy the adult dogs woke up and started barking at me.the family was looking very angry.the locals staying there told that those dogs are mad,they aren't good etc.when i asked them.i know that they aren't mad.was it a calming signal?was it my mistake?

Khushi, wild, feral dogs can be dangerous. They are not like pet dogs, and often fear humans to the point of attacking if they are cornered and frightened. You were standing awfully close to a pack of dogs you did not know. Consider yourself lucky that the parents of the puppies did not view you as a threat to their pups and attack you. I wonder why you were standing there watching them to begin with? Were you staring? Staring is a challenge, and could have triggered the puppy to start barking at you.
