Shitzu puppies

I'm going to be getting a 6weeke old puppy for my daughter for xmas she is 7 yrs. How do you tell which is the boy or girl? The people that I'm getting the puppy from do not know yet. And where can I search for info on shitzu's dog to learn about them.

Hi Laura,  Unlike cats, puppies are easy to tell apart when it comes to sexes.  Male puppies have penises that are midway down their stomach.  With Shih Tzu's you may have to part the hair to find it, depending on how long the hair is.  Here is the National Club Breed website http://64.37.122.206/index2.asp  has tons of info on them.  Hope this helps,
