Adult Dog with Terrible Breath and Strict Dry Food Diet

Question
QUESTION: I have read numerous posts about puppies having bad breath due to teething, and posts about worms/parasites causing bad breath, and poor diet causing bad breath, but I dont think any of those reasons apply to my dog. I have a 2+ year old Yorkie and his breath is absolutely unbearable. It is the WORST thing I've ever smelled. I dont think  he's still teething so that cant be it. His gums appear to be in good condition (not inflamed or bleeding). I've brushed his teeth a few times to see if its the result of plaque or something like that, but it does not help the smell at all. He only eats Kibbles and Bits (dry dog food), so I dont think it is the diet. He's recently been to the vet and we had him immunized for everything so I doubt the worms/parasites.

Is there anything I havent thought of or perhaps anything I am assuming that is incorrect?

Thank You!

ANSWER: Well, I hate to say this but Kibbles and Bits is a terrible dog food. It is full of filler and by products. Go to your local pet store and ask a clerk to help you find a good, quality dog food for your baby. I think you'll find a huge difference.
Also immunization does not protect against parasites, so another vet visit for a deworming is definitely in order. Plus your dog should have his teeth cleaned annually.  I have a feeling if you do these few things you're going to have a little dog with sweet breath before you know it :).

QUESTION: Got the teeth cleaning, and I'll schedule a visit to the vet, but about the dog food...Do you have any recommendations? I never trust store people because sometimes it seems like they're pushing a product for its price rather than its quality. The only other food we tried him on was Pedigree and he wouldnt touch it. Thats the food we gave him when we first got him. He refused to eat it. He went nearly 2 days without eating but still wouldnt eat the Pedigree. We took him to Petsmart, and the store guy there gave Jake a few different kinds of dog food, and he wouldnt eat ANY of them either. Then we were at a friend's house and he ate their dog's Kibbles and Bits and we have just stuck with it.

Answer
Blue is very very good. Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers soul is good but very high in protein. Nutro is pretty good. Enhance is very good. Anything that doesn't have by products, wheat and soy. Type in Dog Food Comparison Chart in your search engine that'll give you several sites that offer charts to help you make a good decision. :)
He just ate the Kibbles because he gave up :) He WILL eat eventually , if he's really stubborn it might take him a few days. Good luck!
