Question
I have two 3 year old Rottweilers.  I have had them since they were  8 weeks old.  I started them on Nutro large breed puppy, then I changed them over to large breed adult when they turned one.  They were doing fine until around their 2nd birthday when they started to have gas. They also began to scratch and lick themselves a lot .  I changed them over to the sensitive stomach and skin version of the Nutro.  Everything was fine until there was a shortage and I couldn't find it anywhere in my area.  I was forced to change to another brand.  I chose the grain free fish based Taste of the Wild brand.  They have been on it for about 5 months now.  The gas is back, but it is not as bad as it was on the Nutro.  I have also noticed that they have more eye discharge than they use to and they are always hungry.  Can you recommend any other dog food for dogs with sensitive skin and stomachs?  Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi Dee!

Yes, the shortage with sensitive stomach/skin was terrible. No rice anywhere for dog food!

Taste of the wild is a fantastic food, but I like the prarie formula better then the fish formula. I feel the ingredients are a little better. I also have noticed the gas issue with ToTW.

I have a dog with a terribly sensitive stomach, actually he has HGE, hemorratic gastroenteritis, that causes huge bloody blowouts if he eats something that disagrees with him, and lands him in the hospital. He also had major skin issues, and bad joints. I had him on Wellness Core, also grain free, and he did a LOT better, however I found the best results by following the RMB diet.

RMB is pure raw meaty bones. Visit www.rawmeatybones.com . I feed whole raw chicken quarters, thighs, rabbits, turkey, pigs feet etc. Its MUCH cheaper to feed big dogs RMB then some of the high quality grain free foods (For instance, I bet you go through 2 big bags of ToTW a month, which is about $100, or $125 a pound roughly, and chicken quarters are $0.48 a pound AND healthier! can't beat that)

Give it a try for three months. Take away all of the processed food and the ToTW and switch them cold turkey (pardon the phrase) to RMB. If you see an improvement in three months, then they should be just fine! :)

Good luck!
