Eye cataracts on dogs

my dog has cataracts on one eye and it looks as if the other might be on early stages also.  other than surgery, are there any other treatments? also, I heard by pouring the contents of a penicillin capsule directly on the eye, will clear it...is this true?

I have never heard the theory of pouring penicillin into the eye, but I doubt that would make any difference since cataracts are not caused by infection.  Check with an animal ophthalmologist before doing anything to your dog's eyes.  You could easily make his vision worse rather than better.
