Older dog avoiding new puppy

Question
Hi

I have a 5 year old female spayed rottweiler x who is a very spoilt family dog.  Recently  I brought an 8 week old Siberian Husky male home in the hope that my older dog would enjoy the new company however she constantly avoids him and at times will not enter through the front door of the house if the puppy is near me.  Further the pup was abused by its previous owner and has become my shadow not leaving my side.  My older dog will therefore avoid me too and I am very upset about this as I do not want to lose the bond I have with my older dog. I have considered finding a loving home for the new pup before he becomes extremely attached to me however I would like to know if you can help regarding the older dog accepting the pup and therefore maintain the bond I share with my older female.

Thanks

Answer
Once past 3 years old, many dogs don't want anything to do with puppies, their sharp little teeth, and their biting games.  You need to teach the puppy to leave the older dog alone.  As soon as the puppy starts to focus on the older dog, give it a sharp ''Ah, ah, ah!'' and offer it a chew toy.

Make time for the older dog.  Crate the puppy or something giving you a chance to spend time with the older dog.  As the puppy gets a little older and less interested in biting games, she may accept it better.  The male/female combination usually works.
