Question
We adopted a 15 month old Havanese from a breeder last week.  She seemed
calm and loving when we bought her home.  She enjoyed boht of our boys,
both 7 and 13 years old.  She was raised primariliy as an indoor dog, using a
litter box for poo , but preffered to go out to pee.  She seemed to be ajusting
well by Wednesday, eating more and being happy with tail up.  I decided to
take her for a 1 mile walk on Thurs.  We live in Wis and the road was snow
covered.  I realized half way into the walkthat it was too much for her.  I left
her at a local groomers and returned for her in my car.  By Thurs night she
vomited thae 1st time. She vomited two more times Friday and whenshe
vomited Sat Morning, I realizedshewasnot drinking or eating like she did
earlier inthe week. I called herbreeder who came over and she vomitted again
. They took her to a vet and he did all kinds of tests on her and said she was
health, dehydrated and stressed out.

What does this mean?  Should I buy a dog that stresses out like this.  Could
my walk have done this to her.  She did not eat anything from the street that I
say, we walked at a brisk pace.  I feel bad that the dog became sick.  The
breeder has her now to recuperate and relax.

Answer
I'm so so sorry. I hope that you have better luck in finding a new baby for your home. You are a wonderful caring pet owner and any breeder should be thrilled to have a pup placed with you.

That really doesn't sound like stress to me. It could be exhaustion from walking too far, or if the streets were snow covered and salted, she might have gotten some salt on her pads and licked her feet. Which would've made her a pretty sick girl.
I wouldn't have sent her back to the breeder as moving her back and forth COULD cause stress. If I were you I'd get her back home as quickly as possible if you intend to keep her, otherwise leave her at the breeders for her own sake. She needs to get where she is going and stay there. I just don't believe that a dog that was adjusting so well would suddenly have stressed over a walkl. Granted that is MUCH too far to walk a dog her size who is unaccustomed to such exercise but again I don't believe this is stress related. I certainly wouldn't let it stop me from adding such a lovely pet to my home.
good luck
