Question
Hi there, my two year old bulldog and her adopted sister (daushound) (we have had her for about a year and a half ) have suddenly started jumping on our couches ! they are never allowed on the couches they are very spoilt have a large cushion /pillow wich even the cat sleeps on in the lounge and milloons of blankets in the kitchen ( wich is there bed and do sleep in doors ) i know my bulldog loves the smell of stay soft but i do wash there balnky's as often as i can . My boyfriend recently started his own business so he is home more than he used to be and wen we both worked the girls would b outside during the day , so now they get dubble the attention they are used to and spend there days lazin in the house they have a giant kennel on the patio and a very large lawn 2 run play as they please . I have taught my bulldog to jump on the top step of our swimming pool in summer to cool down so as you can see they have everything so why the sudden change of behaviour ?Ps they only jump and play on our couches when we are not around or in another room not when we are in the lounge.

Answer
Most dogs are opportunists, and now that your dogs have much more (unsupervised) indoor time, they have discovered the joys of easier living (read that: the comforts of the couch). While you might say, "they are never allowed on the couches", it sounds like someone forgot to tell them that... at least recently. Either do not allow the dogs access to that room, or retrain them.

When one has specific house rules like this (and this includes housebreaking), some dogs need periodic reminders of what is allowed and what is not. Dogs, just like children, will test authority periodically.
