Question
I have had my cockapoo for about 9 months. My dog has long hair and ends up looking like a mop if i dont get her cut! Although i do not want a buzz on her, id like it to be a couple inches. A long but clean haircut. In February i took her to the groomer and i told them clean her up and they did a wonderful job. She really was in need of one this may and my usual groomer was completly booked, so i had to take her somewhere else. When I got there i made it clear and told them not to buzz her, and to keep it long. Sure enough i came to get her and she was completey buzzed. I didnt know what to say i bearly reconized her and i cant put the hair back on. Is there anything i can do to help her grow her hair back? Give her a vitiman B like people do to help humans hair grow? My cockapoo has curly hair..how many inches can it grow up to a month? Will it be about two inches in July, because i cant have her looking this bad all summer- they almost went down to her skin! Thank you so much!

Answer
I can't say how fast or long your dogs hair will get because they all are different--especially a mixed breed like the cockapoo.  I will tell you this...if you want the hair to be long, YOU have to brush the dog every other day. Start with a slicker brush and end with a metal comb. Cockapoos matt easily.  I am like many groomers...if a dog comes in matted-it is shaved down.  It is not fair to the dog to have to be put though dematting.  It is painful and very time comsuming for the groomer. Our job requires allot of time management.  If I can groom 2-3 dogs in the time it takes to dematt one...I will groom the 2-3. To put it honestly..more money.  Believe me, we as groomers do not enjoy shaving down what could be a very cute dog. It looks just as ugly to us. But we also can not take a dog that hasn't had a brush run through it for 3 months and make it a cute little fluff ball.  There is the RARE dog that does not matt up in that time, but they are few and far between. Curly hair matts the fastest..and thats what you have.  You can try the Vit.B..not sure if it will help or not. ..also, I don't know what dose you would give, so be careful. All I can tell you is brush.  The more often you comb him out the longer you can keep his coat. The breeder should have informed you that cockapoos need regular grooming.  Every 8 weeks tops if you want it longer.  Hope this helps and I didn't mean to sound harsh. Good Luck to you, Wendy
