Question
i have a bull mastif he has been attacked by flies recently on his ears until they became raw i put on aloevera juice and they healed perfectly but i noticed today the one earlobe ie end of ear is swollen almost like a balloon filled with water what could be the problem and do you have a solution thanks jeff

Answer
Hi Jeff-

This is a hematoma on the end of his ear, from shaking his head to get rid of the flies. It causes the ears to fill with blood and fluid from the trauma of shaking his ears. He needs to see a vet, who can determine based upon the size and place of the hematoma, the course of action. Typically either a surgery needs to be performed to knock the dog out, cut the ear open and put a stint in to help drain fluid over the next few days, then stitch it back up and watch for reoccurance, or the ears need to be aspirated with a needle by the vet, if it's not a terrible hematoma.

Either way, a vet will be your next step :) If left untreated this can get very large, very painful, and can lead to serious health problems or loss of hearing, so please take him ASAP!
