My mums 2 female dogs fight when i visit, why is this?

Please can you help me?
My mum has a yorkie called honey and a pekinese called lucy, they are both good dogs but the problem is when i visit my mums house they both violently fight with each other over me, they dont do this when im not around. Can you please give me any advise on this as my mum is worried one of them is going to end up badly hurt. thanks

Likely your mum has made the common mistake of allowing the dogs to run the home.  The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts.  Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat. Once she is in charge, she should be able to settle them down.  If they are not spayed already, it would be a good idea.  More so if one is still fairly young and will challenge the older one for leadership as it matures.
