Dog and Pregnancy?

Question
Hello-  Not sure if you know anything about this topic, but I have always had good luck with AllExperts, so I'm gonna give it a shot!  My husband and I are trying to get pregnant with our first child.  We would like a dog that will be a good guard dog for our new family (our neighborhood has had some recent crime), but also would be great with small children. We have a large yard, and I am planning on being a stay at home mom, so I will be around to let the dog out and walk him... What breeds would you suggest?? Mid-large size dogs preferred, esp for the protection factor... Any help would be great!  Thanks!

Answer
Hi Monica
I do not recommend large breed dogs for they cannot run are not athletic, too big and heavy to move.  Such as Mastiffs, Great Danes, etc.
The medium size dogs like German Shepherds, Schnauzer, would be better, more loyal, of course since I breed Shepherds I know this breed to be highly loyal, instinctively loyal and proctective.  Very intelligent, easy to train and great with children.  My personal experience is my pups of many are in family homes with babies and children.  Go for it and get a West German Bred Shepherd, not American for they are not healthy, have many genetic things wrong.

Kind Regards
Patt
