QuestionMy husband and I have a Siberian husky who will turn 1 in October, and we were talking about getting a golden puppy around Christmas to add to our family. We don't have children yet and want to have our dogs trained before we have kids. But i was reading up about the husky breed and i began to wonder if it is ok to have a puppy around a husky? Our is VERY friendly and rather calm, and loves everyone and loves other dogs and having playmates around. But I don't want to put the puppy in danger, of course if we weren't around they BOTH will be in a crate (they husky is crate trained and uses that as his get away.
Please let me know what you think!
AnswerHi Lauren,
Thank you for writing to me. I love Siberian Huskies and have had two of my own. They definitely have strong prey drives so if you are concerned about having a young puppy in the house I would ask that you consider getting a young but mature dog that is past the housebreaking stage as well as the destructive stage. Goldens don't mature until they are 2-3 years old so getting a dog within that time frame will be a win/win situation for all.
Golden Rescue has many beautiful young dogs who are eager to become a member of your loving family. You would also be saving a life because rescue would have a space for a dog on death row.
