dog that kills cats

our dog has killed 5 cats this year. i am beside my self on what to do.
yesterday he killed a cat that i have had for 7 years.
wolf has been here 6. what is making him do this. i am ready to have him put to sleep. if you scold him. he will try and bite you. help

Audrey, you need to seek help from a professional dog trainer and/or behaviorist, if he tries to bite you when you scold him. He does not respect you or view you as his leader. Some dogs can never be fully trusted with cats, no matter how long they live with them. I would recommend that you not leave your dog alone with cats, or allow him off leash when off your property, so he cannot chase and kill cats that he may come across. When you leave the house, crate him, put him in a room without any cats, or kennel him outside. He should never have an opportunity to kill a cat.
