Question
Hi, I have a 6 year old yorkie that has been fed chicken and rice, human cooked chicken and rice and I wanted to know how can I change him from eating chicken and rice to a good quality nutritious dog food?  He had an obstruction I believe from too much protein, my guess.  The vet said it could of been so I just want to get him on dog food, but he is sooooooo stubborn and so damn picky.  PLEASE help!!!!

Answer
First you need to get a good-quality food such as Eagle, Solid Gold, Flint River Ranch, Wellness, etc. My suggestion would be Eagle Holistic Chicken, but it should be a chicken-based product (NO BY-PRODUCTS!). Initially, grind up some kibble in a blender, and mix *small* amounts into what he is currently eating. Very gradually increase the amount of kibble to rice ratio, and you might want to mix in a bit of Eagle canned chicken also as the amount of kibble increases.

This will most likely take several weeks to switch him over. Once one starts feeding anything other than kibble, it can be very hard to switch a dog over.
