dog goes crazy when bad weather

Question
My dog tears my house up during bad weather, when I am gone. When ever I can I will take him with me. He has a doggie door, I will close, because he will surely find a way out and run till he can't. A neighbor several blocks away will call me to get him.
But he is hurting himself, blood will be on my doors where he claws it.  I know if I lock him in the bathroom, he will tear it apart.  Any suggestion would be great.

This is a really difficult problem to solve since the weather is so unpredictable and storms can come up from nowhere.  I would contact your vet for suggestions.  I think the majority of people with this problem end up putting the dog on medication.
