Question
I have a 4 month old Shih Tzu named Sissy-Jo. House training is going well I think. As long as I keep a close eye on her. She is going outside to do her business, but  I am having trouble with keeping the POO out of her hair.  Should I shave her hind quarters or what?  Thanks, pattie

Answer
Hello Pattie, Congratulations on your new puppy, I love the name.  Absolutely trim around the rear.  Actually 4 months is the recommended age for a first grooming.  I am sure she has belly hair and hair around her privates and not to mention the hair in front of her eyes.  Take her to a qualified groomer soon and they will take care of all the necessary trimming for you, they should even trim her nails and clean the inside of her ears for you.  You do not have to shorten the body hair if you like it the way it is, that is up to you, but introducing her to grooming early will be beneficial to you both as she gets older.  Have fun with her and Thanks for asking, Cindy Lou :)
