QuestionI have an 8 month old female Staffordshire Terrior that wants to bite and nibble all the time - she will not sit still. She mainly bites the hands and sometimes goes for the feet & face. Can I train her to stop this or is it something she has to grow out of ???
AnswerNo, I don't expect she will grow out of this. She should have learned that teeth on a person's body is totally unacceptable when she was a baby! Bite inhibition is learned from mother and littermates between 5 and 9 weeks of age, and then from the new owner once the puppy is removed from its litter.
You need to practice "Nothing in Life is Free" (http://k9deb.com/nilif.htm), and I might suggest putting her in a Gentle Leader Training Headcollar. (http://bargraph.com/gentleleader/)
I would also suggest that you contact your veterinarian for the name of a good animal behaviorist so that you can get this behavior under control as soon as possible. On-going obedience classes from a qualified trainer are also a MUST for this dog.
