Question
Hello Charlotte: We have a 6 year Old Mini Schnauzer... I believe i heard our Vet say Not to feed him any Turkey - Does this make sense to you?
Also Can we let him chew on a hard Turkey Bone - We know Chicken Bones Splinter & Are a No-No!
Thanks much,
Karen

Answer
Hi Karen;
ANY bones can be deadly to him.
Steak bones splinter too.
The only bone that is safe for your dog to gnaw on is a beef knuckle bone, and if it is a large dog with very strong jaws, even those can be splintered and choke them or cut their intestines.
I have never heard of turkey meat being bad for dgs, unles it is the chicken or turkey skin.
That is bad to feed them because it is all fat, and being overweight is just as bad for 4 legged animals as it is for us.
Do not feed dogs pork.
There is an enzyme in pork that cannot be killed by cooking or freezing that causes a deadly disease to dogs, if it is present in the pork they eat. It doesn't seem to be harmful to any animals except dogs.
