QuestionI would like to adopt a dog but I live in a small apartment and work full time. I do work evenings and would have time to spend with my dog.
I would like a smaller dog and had a wonderful terrier years ago. Also I have three children who spend a night most weekends. They are good kids - but kids.
Since I'm most likely going to adopt an adult dog from a breed rescue organization, I'm wondering what breeds might be best given my circumstances.
I want to select a dog that is very unlikely to behave agressively. I want a dog that is affectionate and funny and will provide the dog with lots of the same. Also, I've wondered whether I should get a companion animal - perhaps a kitten or another dog because I hate to leave the dog alone.
Yours thoughts would be appreciated.
Thank you!
AnswerIf you can spend time with your dog and work evenings when the dog would be most likely sleeping anyway, then I would suggest the following, but make sure they are used to children.
Smooth fox terrier sturdy playful funny
Mini Schnauzer same as above
Jack Russel same but not as sensitive as the above dogs
Pug a bit more fragile than above dogs but all other characteristics the same
Bichon frise good temperament playful funny
Cavelier King Charles sweet dogs usually playful smart
lab or golden mixes Where they are smaller in size
silky terrier playful sometimes fragile
skye terrier not as playful but sturdy and loyal
greyhound they become couch potatoes when adopted off the track, but of course are large.
Mini dachshund be careful here for good temperament, but if you find one they are great
Well there are some for you.
Also Check AKC.com and go to the breed tab and it not only gives you all the breeds but you can click on each breed and it tells you about the breed. very nice site.
good luck
