grooming toy poodles

Question
Hi
We recently purchased a toy poodle and want to purchase clippers so that we can keep her hair trimmed ourselves.  We've been advised that Wahl are the best ones to get.  But we're not sure whether we should get the standard ones (Wahl Show Pro Clippers @ around A$90) or the next ones up in the range (Wahl KM-SS Clipper @ A$218).  As we're getting conflicting advice from pet stores.  They're basically saying that because poodle hair is different to other dog hair....we need to get the KMSS ones.  Are you able to assist ?
Many thanks
Tash

Answer
Be careful where you shop; some places basically just sell junk... and expensive junk at that. There are now a million different kinds of clippers out there, and many are fairly similar. Since you only have one dog, you really just need a fairly basic pair of clippers.

Expect to pay about $150 or so for a good pair of clippers. (Cordless, or battery-operated will cost much more) Clippers should have interchangable blades, and can have one or two speeds. Do not get any clipper that basically relies on those plastic combs to give you various lengths. Most of your cutting should be done with metal blades and a good pair of shears. I recommend Andis and Oster clippers. http://tinyurl.com/6qhby4

By the way, when you visit those pets stores, talk to their groomer (if they have one) rather than a sales clerk!
