Question
why has my puppy boxer got blood shot eyes

Answer
Hi Dee,

A puppy's eyes should be clear, with no red coloration to the whites. There should also not be any heavy discharge, discoloration, cloudiness, or tearing in your puppy's eyes.

The most common condition in dogs and puppies that causes red eyes is Conjunctivitis, which is an inflammation of the mucous membranes of the eye. The eye reddens because of the increased flow of blood, and there is sometimes also swelling of the mucous membranes. Causes include infection, scratches, and eye irritants like smoke or dust.

Conjunctivitis is easily treated with either medicated drops or ointment. Your puppy needs to be examined by your veterinarian.

Best of luck,
Patti
