I have a male and female dog. My male dog had sex with the female today.  It has been 4 hours since and his penis is still out what should I do or call?

Hi Heather,

Four hours sounds excessive, usually the male and female will not separate for up to a half hour, "the tie" can last longer though.

Do not try to separate the dogs during the tie, because it can injure either or both animals. Sooner or later, they will part naturally.

If you receive this response, and the dogs are still not separated, call a vet (many have after hour answering services) and ask what you should do.
