dog behavour problem

Question
At end of December I bought a 5 month old female parson russell terrier. She had been returned to breeder as she had developed fault on her teeth and would not make show. I have a crate for her (her size) and she lotves it. Problem is a couple of times a week she urinates and/or defecates in her crate! If I dont put her in her crate when I go out she always defecates on the floor. And on one occasion at night she defecated on my daughters bed! How can I stop this awful behavour? I'm at the end of my tether.

Answer
Patience.  The dog was only 5 months old when you got her and had only just obtained full control over her bladder etc.  keep going with the crate system, but change a couple of things.  If she is urinating in her crate then chances are it is too big usually a dog will not go to the toilet in the same spot they have to sit unless they are left alone too long.
Leave her in the crate until you take her outside.  Once she has gone to the toilet outside then let her have the run of the house.  Recrate her after an hour or if she defecates in the house and dont let her out of the crate again until she is taken outide and defecates in the appropriate place.
I hope this helps
