Question
We have a five year old German Shepherd (short haired variety)who moults like crazy the whole time. Could you tell us how often we should bath and groom him, what tools we should use, and if there is anything we can do to reduce his moulting? Thank you for your kindness.

Answer
Hello Elena, I personally have a lab and have a similar problem, because of have an ideal situation to bathe him, he gets a bath once a week with a conditioning shampoo.  I have found this to somewhat minimize the shedding.  Using a Shed N Blade is a fabulous idea.  This tool can be piked up at most pet stores or on line pet sites such as www.petedge.com   Giving your dog a healthy diet where his coat and skin is not dry and flaky but shiney and glisening will make for less shedding.  In all truthfullness I haven't met a completely non shedding shepard, however, keeping his coat healthy, bathing one to two times monthly with an excellant shampoo and using the shed n blade two to three times weekly will give you the results that I believe you will be happy with.  In most homes a dogs coat is confused as when to moult and when not to.  In the summer the dog will go outside and the warm weather tells him to moult, then he comes inside to air conditioning and his body tells him to increase his coat only to go out to the heat once again.  The winter is the opposite situation, so as you can see the average house pet will shed year round.  Good Luck, Cindy lou :)
