hot nose

Question
I was writing to you with another question before. Rex, our new dog wont eat. Now I have another question to ask. He is a Old English Sheepdog Mix and as the previous owner said he likes to be outside. In there house he was most of the time in the garden.
In our house which is really not very warm (max 22 degrees) he is keeping himself in front of the entrance door or in the kitchen (kitchen has no heating and is very cold). He has most of the time his tongue out and is breathing fast so as if he would feel too hot. He is drinking quiet a lot and his nose is warm and dry. When he comes back from a walk his nose is fine: cold.

Next Saturday I have an appointment with a grooming specialist to give him a good bath and a fur cut. His undercoat is very thick and under his belly and behind his ears are a lot of clots (the previous owner did hardly brush his fur)
Do you think I need to worry about his warm nose? Is it only the room temperature which may be too warm for him or can it be something else?

Answer
Kathi-

I wouldn't be too concerned about the warm nose, as it is most likely from the temperature change. If it becomes very hot (like a childs  forehead with fever) and bone dry, it could indicate he is overheating or has a fever.

Where do you live? I am curious about your house being 22 degrees, I am guessing thats not 22*F!!!

If he seems to be REALLY uncomfortable, try taking some frozen water bottles and placing them under a blanket for him to lay on. That may help cool him a bit, and a haircut is probably a good idea too :)
