Question
I have a almost 9 year old Rottweiler mix that has been eating EVERYTHING lately. We have had her for about 4 years and she has never gotten into anything aside from food or garbage but lately she will eat anything she can get her paws on whether it be her feces, cat litter, clothes, towels, cardboard, paper and yesterday she even ate my entire pack of birth control (including plastic). She was recently diagnosed with Cushing's disease..could this have anything to do with it? I can't leave my house without coming home to everything being destroyed and I'm frustrated with not knowing what to do. I really hate the thought of having to crate her but I feel like I'm running out of options. :(

Answer
I am a strong advocate of the crate, but I am not sure a 9 year old would adjust well.  Have you discussed this problem with the vet?

An older dog might adjust better to a tie down, just a short length of chain with a snap.  I continued one when a 10 year old Lab came into my care.

The best solution might be doggy day care.
