i have a silky terrier that is either 7 or 8 years old and i wanted to know if it is normal for these types of dogs to get hyper and jumpy as they get older

Hi Allisa!

You didn't say whether or not you have had this dog for 7 or 8 years, or whether this is a new pet in your home.  If you have had him/her for this time period and all of the sudden there is a dramatic change in behavior, then I would have him/her checked out.  But normally,no, a silky terrier does not get more hyper with age.  Actually, they would be calmer.   I have a yorkie/silky mix and mine is playful and full of spunk, but I wouldn't call her hyper.  Now , if you have just recently acquired this dog,  you need to know that this breed loves activity and loves to play. I'm not sure what you mean by "jumpy" but is he/she displays abnormal behavior, a trip to your vet might be what is needed.  I hope this helped!
