Question
Hello, I am picking up my puppy tomarrow and am wondering how soon can I bath him as he smelt like pee when I wnet and saw him and am thinking he still smells like this.

Answer
Oh, man, that's another not-so-good sign. :^S  Puppies should NOT smell like urine or feces. This is a sign that they have been kept in their own filth, and yet another sign of a bad breeder - someone that is only out to make money and doesn't really care about the dogs. Being kept like this not only affects the health of the puppies, but it makes housetraining them much more difficult because they are already used to living in soiled conditions and will not think twice about pooping and peeing where they sleep.

I would bathe him as soon as I got him home, but use a mild puppy shampoo. Do not use flea shampoo or medicated shampoo. Fur-So-Fresh is a good shampoo for puppies. Make sure the water is not too hot; it should be lukewarm and you should towel dry him immediately so he does not catch a chill. After this first bath, you shouldn't need to bathe him again for a while - at least 3 weeks - unless he gets into a mud puddle or otherwise gets himself dirty.
