Question
Hi,
I am close to adopting an american cocker spaniel. Male or Female? Does one generally have a better temperment?  What would be the differences in your opinion? We are purchasing from a good breeder.
Thanks,
Jill

Answer
Hello Jill and thank you for your questions, Congrats on buying a new puppy as well dogs are wonderful and puppies are great fun. I have two female dogs both spayed and one male neutered....they are all different breeds also so this may be just the breed... I find my male dog to be alittle weird in personality he is 'Luke' A jack russell Terrier and 2 years old had him since he was a puppy...he isnt very cuddley at all thou hates to be left alone or crated and left when I go to work, He does love to be petted and will come sit beside me to be petted but genrally doesnt cuddle and he doenst listen very well but i am 100% such that thats the terrier stubbornness thats bred into him. I perosnaly love Luke as much as my female dogs because he loves to run with me, loves to play frisbee and is tireless... he also makes sure there are no stray cats anywhere near our yard or squerils for that matter lol. My female dogs 'Haylie' a labrador retereiver and Hannah a boston Terrier aged 3 and 1 i've laso had since they were puppies vary very much in persoanlity...both love kids both are wary of strangers, both are good at the vets office, both give lots of kisses and snuggle up, both play frisbee as well and both enjoy watching a good dog show or movie(Baileys billions/Betoveen/101 dalmations or just a vet show or dog agility show they are glued to the screen...thats all three not just the girls). I do find that my female dogs are a bit more affectionet then my male dog but I think thats jacks are more indpendent type dogs to start with. My sister has a chihuahua and he is very loving with her and her husband my friend has a female golden retreiver/labrador retreiver X and she is extremly loving and very cuddley....I firmly belaive any sex makes a great companion and makes a better one if the dog is spayed or Neutered also. I hope this gives good insight into the varying temperments of male and female companion dogs and hope you find your perfect puppy.
