Question

Shadow
My 9 y/o english pointer has been having trouble hopping up on the bed the last couple of weeks. He's stoic so I can't tell whether he's in pain. When I walked him this morning, I noticed that he wasn't tracking up with his right hind leg. He brings it inward with a little rotatation. By the end of the one mile walk he was doing better. No signs of hip dyslpasia perviously. Could it be anything else?

Answer
Hi Valerie-

With his age, and the time of year (winter being the most common time symptoms show up) I would suggest arthritis. Try offering some glucosamine, chondrotin, MSM and shark cartlidge. All very helpful! If you prefer the drug method you can use baby asprin, but I don't like that that does to the blood. Otherwise, your vet can perscribe a pain medication.

I hope he feels better! He is beautiful!
