my daschunds first heat

I have 7 month old female who is experiencing her first heat. I also have a 13 month old male daschund.Should I keep them separated during her first heat?

Hi Kevin,

You should most definitely keep your dogs separated during your dog's heat cycle. If you are intending to breed your dogs, you should know that female dogs should not be bred before their second heat cycle.

If you have no plans on breeding your dogs, you are taking a huge risk of owning two intact dogs.  Eventually you will be dealing with an unplanned pregnancy no matter how diligent you feel you've been.
