Stafforshire Bull Terriers and Pit Bull Terrier?

Question
Hello, I am not sure if you are the right person to ask this questions but I figured since you owned terriers you might be able to help. I recently rescued an 8 week old Stafforshire Bull Terrier mix puppy. He is a wonderful male, black and white, mostly white, with grey eyes. I have extensive personal experience with training and have already taught him to sit, stay, down, fetch, hand shake, and come. I have been told by some people that Staffords are the same as Pit Bull terriers, is this true? I tried to look this up on the internet but seem to also find conflicting answers. Some people demand they are the same breed while others say they are similar but completely different. Any help clarifing this question would be great.

Answer
There is actually no such breed as a 'pitbull' but is rather a type of dog, that the media often clumps together with a number of breeds, and unfortunately in areas where 'pitbulls' are banned a number of breeds are banned because they look similar

The three main breed called 'pitbulls' are the American Pitbull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier and yes,the Staffordshire Bull Terrier-but here's where it gets confusing often a mix that includes one of these dogs are called a 'pitbull' often, people will just say there dog is either a pitbull or pitbull mix

Out of the three breeds, however, the Staffordshire Bull terrier is the least likely to be called a pitbull,it is more likely to be called a 'staffie' these days
