Question
Are you aware of any immediate, at-home remedies for a dog that has been bitten by wasps? My 5 year old Boxer baby seems to encounter more than her share - and yesterday while at the off-leash Doggie Park, while having a blast running through the woods - she must have jumped into a whole nest. She came running back to me, and her whole hind quarter was covered with wasps. I got her to the pond and the majority of them drowned. By the time I got her home (10 min by car), the lumps had started to appear. I gave her 1/2 of an antihistomine (Reactin/24 hour),
and watched her carefully. Within a couple of hours, she appeared to be fine. Today, she has totally recovered - being her playful, inquisitive self.  I would appreciate your comments or suggestions regarding wasp/hornet/bee stings - as I just treated her as I would treat a child. Is there a better method?
PS: We didn't go to the vet this time as it was after hours, I had no idea where to find one that was open, and I wanted to give her something as soon as possible - as she was totally unable to even sit down.

Answer
HI Claudette,

I honestly am not sure what you could have done any different that what you did. Thankfully, your boxer is not allergic to bee stings, because it could have been deadly and had it been a smaller breed it would probably have killed it.   You probably have already warned the other people in the park, so that it won't happen to anyone else.    If I were you, I would call my vet and find out exactly what to do in this circumstance.  Believe it or not, after working for three different vets I have never seen a dog come in with multiple bee stings, although I am sure it is common, depending on the area.
I haven't helped much,  but I do think you deserve a pat on the back for reacting quickly and doing what I think is the best thing you could have done!
