My Sib. Husky

Question
Hey thanks I want to say thanks for you time first of all. My question is my husky is about a year old and she looks pretty skinny. She has a twin that looks just the same in weight. What would be the best thing to feed her so she can be healthy as possible.

Answer
Maybe exactly what you are.  Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest. You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them. Each dog is different. Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog must have its food and exercise adjusted to its individual needs. Here is a link to a good illustrated guide, http://www.longliveyourdog.com/twoplus/RateYourDog.aspx

Most healthy dogs will eat all they need.  If you evaluate as above, and she really is too thin, offer her more of what she is getting as long as it is meat based dog food.  If she won't eat it, see the vet.  If the vet agrees she is too thin, then he can start looking for problems.  It is almost unknown to have to alter a dog's diet to increase its weight.  Beware of those that will help you bribe your dog into eating more than it needs with rich food.
