Adopted Daschund only potties in crate

Question
We just adopted a 5-year female Daschund mix.  The only place she will go to the bathroom is in her crate.  We are walking her, monitoring food intake etc., but in her first five days at home, the only time she has gone to the bathroom is in the crate when we are away.  How do we train her to go when she goes outside?

Answer
Well that is very unusual,as crates usual work to stop the dog from house soiling

Another method you could try are puppy pads or paper training to start off with,so he will know one spot to go,then you can start placing her outside when he starts sniffing in circles(a sign they need to go)and if you don't catch her, place her outside right after she goes and keep her outside for a few minutes
