Boxer dog appears afraid

Question
I have a 1 1/2 year old boxer female who has recently acted as though she is more and more afraid in different situations.  We have noticed it on occasion from noise, but observe it mostly in the car.  She used to LOVE going places with us and will still go, but is sometimes reluctant to get in the car.  After we get started, she starts to tremble/ shake, her heart races, and she begins panting. She also often tries to crawl in the front seat with us.  My husband and I are moving to England at the end of the month and want to take her, but are afraid of what a plane ride might due to her, especially with this new found fear.  Is this typical?  Is she stressed with all the changes occuring?  Will it be safe to fly her overseas?  Thanks for any help/ advice you have to offer.

Answer
It is probable she is stressed out with the changes occurring because of the move.  You can get pills prescribed from the vet to sedate fussy travellers which may help with the plane ride and with car rides in the meantime.
A travelling crate may also help. You can put dark blankets over the crate and keep the noise in the car to a minimum so that she feels as safe and secure as possible and hopefully will accept that she cannot get to you and calm down more.
As to whether it is safe to fly her overseas - that I cannot really answer.  it may be the motion of the car that makes her anxious or it may be the uncertainty of being unable to get to you.  If its the first case she will probably be fine and calm down on a long haul flight when the motion of the plane appears minimal.  If the problem is the second scenario there are things a professional behaviorist could work on with you to try and minimize this problem.= and hopefully have her travelling well.  I would suggest you contact a behaviorist in your area to arrange a consultation.
Hope this helps
